With major game reveals on the horizon, a classic Star Wars title may be gearing up for a comeback on PC and consoles. A well-known industry insider has hinted that a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic could be among the headline announcements at The Game Awards. After years of waiting, recent signals give fans reason to hope the project is edging closer to release.
Insider Kurakasis suggested on social media that the spotlight would fall on a major Star Wars game, while ruling out the strategy title Star Wars: Zero Company and the action-adventure Star Wars Eclipse. The mention of The Old Republic in the title narrows the field even more, and the trail naturally points to KOTOR.
The KOTOR remake was first unveiled during PlayStation Showcase 2021, but development hasn’t been smooth: Saber Interactive took over the project after Aspyr Media. In March 2025, Saber’s creative director Tim Willits said the company’s current projects, including the KOTOR remake, were safe.
The story of Knights of the Old Republic unfolds thousands of years before the original trilogy, with new plotlines and characters, and the series later expanded into an MMORPG. Rumors about a Total War entry featuring the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire are fanning interest—there’s a possibility Creative Assembly is building a large-scale tactical strategy set in the Star Wars universe that could also surface at The Game Awards.
All of this sets up The Game Awards as a likely stage for big Star Wars news, from the long-awaited KOTOR remake to fresh projects rooted in the Old Republic era.
