With the release of iOS 26.2, Apple keeps refining the CarPlay ecosystem, adding fresh interface touches and smoothing how it works with key apps. It follows the sweeping iOS 26 update, which introduced the Liquid Glass visual style, AirPlay video playback while parked, widgets, Live Activities, and more.
One of the headline changes is expanded widget placement. Previously, users could add only two items; now that number can be increased—though the option is limited to cars with large built-in displays. Apple has not specified which models are supported, and owners of vehicles with widescreen screens are, most likely, the ones who will benefit. The change should make CarPlay feel more adaptable without overwhelming the dashboard.
The Messages app also gets a small but welcome tweak: users can disable pinned conversations if they prefer the classic list of threads. The new toggle is in CarPlay settings and restores a cleaner, more familiar look—handy for those who value simplicity behind the wheel.
All of these improvements activate automatically after installing iOS 26.2. To check for the update, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
