Apple has just introduced its new iPhone 17 smartphones. As so often happens, most details surfaced online well ahead of the event and were within easy reach for anyone paying attention. The lineup brings new processors, a refreshed look, and an updated cast of models. Let’s go through the essentials—there was a point to watching the keynote.
The iPhone 17 family includes the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a newcomer that replaces the less popular iPhone 17 Plus: the iPhone 17 Air. The switch feels like a pragmatic reset. The phones also adopt a redesigned rear panel—familiar enough that it won’t surprise anyone.
The baseline iPhone 17 now runs on a 3 nm Apple A19 chip and carries 8 GB of RAM to power Apple Intelligence. It features a 6.3-inch ProMotion display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, sturdier protection against physical damage, and a dual main camera with 12 MP and 48 MP sensors. The battery, according to Apple, extends operation by eight hours compared with the iPhone 16.
Apple also drew attention to the front camera: it now supports Center Stage and uses an 18 MP sensor. The model starts at $799 with 256 GB of storage as the minimum configuration.
