Samsung may bring back S Pen support to its foldable smartphones—and do it to compete head‑on with Apple’s first foldable iPhone. According to South Korean sources, the company is developing a new Galaxy Fold with a wider display positioned as a direct response to Apple’s future iPhone Fold.
Samsung previously offered S Pen support in the Galaxy Z Fold line, but dropped the stylus in recent models—the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and even the experimental Galaxy Z TriFold. Rumors also suggest the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 will skip the pen. The device in question would be a separate model, sitting outside the main Fold lineup.
A wider screen is expected to make S Pen use more comfortable, especially for work and multitasking. The trade‑off is clear: supporting a stylus requires an additional slot, which will likely make the device thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 8, a model that is being engineered to be as thin and light as possible.
Samsung is already signaling a readiness to broaden its foldable catalog. This year the company released the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE and the Galaxy Z TriFold, so introducing another model aimed squarely at Apple looks like a logical next step—especially with rumors pointing to a wide form factor for Apple’s first foldable.
Whether this S Pen‑ready Galaxy Fold will actually ship remains uncertain, but the number of leaks suggests the project is indeed under discussion within Samsung’s mobile division. If it does reach the market, the stylus could again be positioned as a key advantage against a foldable iPhone.
