Pixel 10 Pro XL teardown shows a big step in repairability

Google’s flagship Pixel 10 Pro XL, unveiled alongside the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel Watch 4, stands out not only for its cameras and AI features but also for a markedly improved approach to repair. A teardown by blogger Zak Nelson, known as JerryRigEverything, underscores the shift.

The headline change is the battery mount. Instead of the usual adhesive, Google uses special pull tabs that let you remove the battery without dedicated tools. That makes one of the most common phone fixes simpler and cheaper — and after everything was put back together, the device kept working as expected.

The chassis design has also become sturdier and more service-friendly. On top of that, Google publishes official repair guides and sells components through iFixit, making maintenance genuinely accessible to everyday users. That kind of openness goes a long way for anyone who’d rather repair than replace.

It still doesn’t reach the level of brands built around repairability, like Fairphone, but for the Pixel line it’s a meaningful step forward. Observers note that Google is, for the first time, treating ease of service as a real priority — a move that makes the new models more appealing to those who value longevity and sustainability. It feels like a practical course correction likely to resonate with people who plan to keep their phones longer.
