Xiaomi’s 2026 support roadmap: HyperOS 3 and end-of-life phones

Xiaomi has published an updated software support roadmap for 2026, and for some users the news isn’t exactly uplifting. As the company readies HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 for current models, several popular smartphones are officially reaching end of life. In practice, that means no more system updates, new features, or—most crucially—security patches.

The flagships in the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro line will hang on a little longer than the rest. Their support is set to end in October 2026, with HyperOS 3 serving as the last major update. Owners can expect the HyperIsland interface and improved compatibility with Apple’s ecosystem, but development will effectively stop there.

The picture looks tougher in the mid-range and budget tiers. One of the brand’s most widespread devices, the Redmi Note 12 5G, will reach the end of its lifecycle in March 2026 and, according to preliminary information, won’t receive HyperOS 3—remaining on HyperOS 2 with Android 15. A similar outcome awaits the ultra-budget Redmi 12C, which will also lose updates early in the year.

Technically, these phones will keep working—calls, messengers, even games won’t vanish. But without security updates, the devices become more vulnerable. By late 2026, banking and enterprise apps may start flagging such phones as unsafe and gradually restrict access, a particularly sensitive issue for those who rely on their handsets for finance and work.
