Samsung has taken another step toward launching its own smart glasses. The company has updated the Nearby Device Scanning feature on its phones and tablets, laying the technical groundwork for fast pairing with a new category of hardware—glasses.
Nearby Device Scanning is used to effortlessly pair Galaxy devices with accessories such as smartwatches and rings. In the latest update, a reference to Glasses Quickpair appears—a mechanism for pairing glasses to a smartphone in a tap. It’s hard not to read that as a direct hint that Samsung’s smart glasses are well into development and will require the same seamless integration as the brand’s other wearables.
The update also adds support for One UI 8.5, the next major version of Samsung’s interface. It’s expected to arrive in the coming months as part of broader ecosystem changes that include extended and mixed reality devices. Samsung is already testing One UI 8.5 through a beta program.
A full release will likely follow the unveiling of the Galaxy S26 lineup, and the company could be ready to announce its glasses alongside it. With Galaxy XR and other experimental devices slated for 2025, moving into wearable optics looks like a natural progression for Samsung.
While there are no official specifications or a launch date yet, the appearance of Glasses Quickpair makes one thing clear: Samsung is preparing the software infrastructure for smart glasses, and their debut seems only a matter of time.
