POCO has officially introduced the M8 5G smartphone lineup, which arrives in two models: POCO M8 and POCO M8 Pro. Aimed squarely at the budget and mid-range, both phones come with Snapdragon processors, high-refresh AMOLED displays, and HyperOS 2 based on Android 15 - a package that signals an intent to raise expectations in the affordable tier.
The standard POCO M8 pairs a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 with up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512 GB of storage. It uses a 6.77-inch AMOLED panel at 120 Hz with peak brightness up to 3,200 nits. Power comes from a 5,520 mAh battery with 45 W fast charging, while the main camera is built around a 50 MP Light Fusion 400 sensor. The phone also carries IP66 protection, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and an in-display fingerprint reader - a mix that should help with visibility outdoors and smooth scrolling without inflating the price.
POCO M8 Pro 5G steps up to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and adds the POCO IceLoop cooling system. It features a larger 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The main camera combines a 50 MP Light Fusion 800 sensor with optical stabilization and an 8 MP ultrawide, while the front camera is 32 MP. The overall emphasis is on screen fidelity and imaging stability, nudging the Pro model toward buyers who want more headroom without chasing flagships.
One of the headline features of the Pro version is its 6,500 mAh silicon-carbon battery with 100 W fast charging and reverse charging up to 22.5 W. The phone also brings IP68, NFC, Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6, and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. Both models come in black, green, and silver, with introductory prices - factoring in early discounts - starting at $209 for the POCO M8 and $279 for the POCO M8 Pro 5G. Taken together, the specs and pricing position both devices as competitive options in their respective brackets.
