Samsung begins mass production of HP-B 200MP camera with variable optical zoom

Insiders report that Samsung has begun mass production of a new HP-B camera featuring a 200 MP sensor and variable optical zoom. Earlier reports indicated the company was developing a system with continuous focal-length adjustment for mobile devices, and there is now corroboration of that effort. The move to mass production suggests the project has stepped beyond lab prototypes.

According to the leak, the camera offers a zoom range from 3x to 7x, comes with autofocus, and uses prism-based optical image stabilization. It remains unclear, however, whether the prototype shown so far is the actual HP-B module or simply a proof of concept for how the technology operates. A continuous 3x–7x range points to smoother framing, but only the finished hardware will show how it behaves in real use.

Interestingly, insiders say Samsung is developing this camera not for its own Galaxy flagships but for third-party manufacturers—primarily Chinese brands. That would mean even the forthcoming Galaxy S26 lineup might not include the technology. This focus on external partners also hints that others could be first to bring the module to market.

If production has indeed started, an official HP-B presentation could arrive soon, and Samsung would then reveal more details about its innovative camera system.
