Apple plans a foldable iPhone for 2026 with Samsung Display OLED

Apple is gearing up to step into the foldable smartphone arena, aiming to unveil its first iPhone with a flexible display in fall 2026. The company’s key partner on the project will be Samsung Display, which is set to handle display production for the new device.

Panel production is reportedly slated to begin in May 2026, with Samsung Display serving as the sole supplier of OLED screens for the foldable iPhone. The initial run is planned at around 9 million displays—a cautious yet confident opening move for a brand-new product. The baseline timeline points to a September 2026 launch, though sources allow for a possible shift in dates.

Earlier, Samsung Display showcased an updated OLED panel for foldables with a less visible crease at the fold—an improvement that could prove important to how the future iPhone feels in daily use. The device is expected to fold in half, unlike some competitors experimenting with more complex form factors, signaling a focus on polish over showmanship for the first iteration.
