Google Maps 25.49 streamlines Android settings menu

Google Maps has overhauled its settings menu on Android, shedding the bloated, confusing layout that over the years had turned into a tangle of tiny toggles and the odd random emoji.

The options are now grouped into seven main sections: app and display — theme, map controls, accessibility; navigation — driving modes, walking routes, public transport; your cars — connected vehicles and engine type; location and privacy — Timeline, Maps history, Profile; offline maps — downloads and updates; notifications — reminders and recommendations.

Some menus remain familiar, but the new build pulls related features together to make them easier to find. The refresh is already live in Google Maps version 25.49 on the stable channel after a server-side update, though it hasn’t reached all Android users yet. The changes have surfaced on iOS as well, even though the iPhone app was already more minimalist by design.

Overall, the update streamlines the hunt for the right setting and gives Google Maps a cleaner, more up-to-date feel that better suits everyday use.
