While most automakers continue to lean on familiar Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Chinese brands are pushing further, building their own systems for deeper phone-to-car integration. Vivo is emerging as a front-runner: its platform already runs in more than 1 million vehicles in China, a scale that makes it feel less like a pilot and more like a roadmap.
The company has confirmed it is preparing a new generation of in-car integration alongside the vivo X300 and X300 Pro smartphones, which will run OriginOS 6 based on Android 16. Unlike Android Auto’s pared-back, mirrored interface on the infotainment screen, vivo’s approach offers a personalized layer with access to essential apps and expanded capabilities. It’s a bolder bet than simple screen mirroring, aiming to make the phone feel native inside the cabin.
At the core is voice control handled by the Xiao V assistant. Drivers will be able to set navigation, reply to messages, or place calls without taking their attention off the road. Vivo is also developing a second assistant, Xiao P, which stays “in the car” and enables remote commands. From home, a user could use a voice command on their smartphone to pop the trunk or unlock the doors; when approaching the vehicle, there should be no need to reach for a key or open an app.
According to vivo representatives, this is only the beginning: the system will receive updates and new features, including broader control of vehicle functions and close integration with Chinese automakers such as XPeng. For now, the project remains exclusive to China, and a launch in Europe or the United States is unlikely. Even so, the concept hints at what’s coming next—smartphone and car fused into one intelligent ecosystem, with voice taking the lead.
