Huawei launches ADS 5 autonomous driving and new HarmonyOS for cars

Huawei is gearing up for a major update to its automotive technologies. During a recent media day for Huawei Qiankun, Jin Yuzhi, head of the Intelligent Automotive Solution BU, revealed that the company will introduce its ADS 5 autonomous driving system this year, along with a new version of HarmonyOS for vehicles and the next generation of its XMC digital chassis. Detailed technical specifications for these solutions will be disclosed in April, just ahead of the Beijing Auto Show.

At the same time, Huawei is preparing hardware innovations. A dual-focus AR-HUD based on LCoS technology will debut in the updated Aito M9 crossover, while a new generation of sensor equipment will launch in two flagship models: the Aito M9 and the premium Zunjie S800 sedan. This highlights the company's strong emphasis on combining advanced driver assistance systems with more intuitive augmented reality displays.

According to Jin Yuzhi, the adoption of Huawei's solutions in the automotive industry will continue to grow rapidly. By 2026, the number of vehicle models equipped with Huawei ADS will exceed 80, and the total fleet of cars using this technology will reach approximately 3 million units. In practice, this means Huawei is effectively establishing its platforms as an industry standard in the Chinese market.

The company also shared usage statistics for its Qiankun systems in 2025. During that period, vehicles with Huawei's driver assistance features traveled over 5.4 billion kilometers in assisted driving mode, the system helped prevent around 2.12 million potential collisions, and the automatic parking function was used 330 million times. The active user rate for these driving assistants reached 98%, underscoring high trust in the technology.

Additionally, Huawei noted growing popularity for its smart comfort features and ecosystem: the voice assistant was activated 2.6 billion times, seamless device connectivity functions were used 132 million times, and options like motion sickness reduction mode were engaged millions of times. Overall, this shows that Huawei is betting not just on autonomous driving, but on a comprehensive smart car experience.
