Honor has officially unveiled its Watch GS 5 smartwatch, emphasizing advanced health monitoring features and impressive battery life. Pre-orders in China begin on January 19. The watch is positioned as the next step in the GS series, with a focus on cardiovascular system monitoring.
The new model retains the round design familiar from previous entries in the line, but the case is noticeably slimmer. The Honor Watch GS 5 is just 9.9mm thick and weighs a mere 26 grams, making it comfortable for all-day wear. With Bluetooth use, the claimed battery life reaches up to 23 days, placing it among the leaders for smartwatch autonomy.
A key feature of the Watch GS 5 is its new heart-health tools. Honor states the device includes a sudden cardiac arrest risk screening function, which analyzes heart rate indicators and related signals to detect potentially dangerous irregularities. This is complemented by a system that tracks long-term trends and can provide early warnings about possible issues. The company emphasizes that these functions are for informational purposes only and are not a substitute for medical diagnosis.
Beyond this, the watch supports a standard suite of body monitoring capabilities, including continuous heart rate measurement, blood oxygen level monitoring, stress tracking, and detailed sleep analysis. While Honor has not yet revealed all sensor details, it is expected to use an enhanced multi-channel system similar to previous GS series models.
For everyday use, the Watch GS 5 gains several smart features, such as reminders for flights, trips, and booked taxis. Official display specifications are not yet confirmed, but the design suggests the retention of an AMOLED screen around 1.43 inches in diameter, consistent with past generations.
The price of the Honor Watch GS 5 has not been announced. For reference, the Watch GS 4 model launched in March 2024 with a starting price of 949 yuan. Given the increased battery life and new heart health assessment features, the Watch GS 5 appears aimed at users who want not just fitness tracking, but deeper insights into their physical condition.
