Apple is gradually preparing for a large-scale transition to OLED displays across its device lineup. According to industry sources, the company plans to implement this technology in iPads and Macs over several years—from 2026 to 2028—rather than all at once.
The iPad mini and MacBook Pro are reportedly first in line for OLED. These devices, which prioritize compactness and professional use, could get the new screens by late 2026. Meanwhile, more affordable models like the MacBook Air will stick with LCD for a few more years, likely switching to OLED only around 2028.
A similar pattern is expected for the iPad Air. Despite an imminent refresh, its display will remain LCD. Sources indicate OLED will arrive in the next generation of the tablet, pushing the technology’s adoption to at least 2027.
The iMac is drawing particular attention: Apple is rumored to be preparing a 24-inch model with an OLED screen, but its launch isn’t expected before 2027–2028. This cautious timeline hints at the production challenges and high cost of large OLED panels.
