Xiaomi has unveiled the Sound Party portable Bluetooth speaker, priced at around $83, aiming to compete with JBL and Sony models through high power and loud sound. The device features a 50W mono audio system with separate woofer and tweeter, while sound processing is handled by the proprietary Harman AudioEFX DSP algorithm, which reduces distortion at high volumes.
Despite its impressive power, the speaker remains monophonic—achieving stereo sound requires a second identical unit paired together. Nevertheless, the Sound Party can confidently handle outdoor party audio, and its IP67 protection allows worry-free use near water or in nature.
Claimed battery life reaches 26 hours, though real-world scenarios with high volume and active RGB lighting cut that time roughly in half. An added bonus is the 15W reverse charging function, which lets users charge a smartphone from the speaker's battery, albeit at the cost of reduced playback time.
Software-wise, the device performs best within the Xiaomi and HyperOS ecosystem. Basic Bluetooth connectivity is available to all, but advanced control and lighting features remain exclusive to Xiaomi devices, potentially a drawback for users on other platforms.
