While Bungie has officially confirmed a March release for Marathon, the exact date has remained a mystery. A new leak from the Xbox Store, however, points to March 5th, effectively marking the start of the month. This gained further traction after an Xbox user discovered and recorded a pre-order trailer that soon surfaced online.
The leaked materials also mention a Deluxe Edition. This includes the Midnight Decay bundle with cosmetic items like weapon skins, plus additional content. An official pre-order announcement could be imminent, as developers typically move quickly to address such leaks by confirming or denying the information.
The new Marathon arrives nearly 30 years after Marathon Infinity, but it's a completely different concept. Bungie has opted for a PvPvE shooter format with survival and extraction elements, featuring exclusively first-person gameplay.
The story unfolds on the abandoned colony of Tau Ceti IV, a world where the population has vanished without a trace. Players take on the role of Runners—biocybernetic mercenaries embarking on dangerous raids for weapons, resources, and upgrades. The map features both NPC enemies and other players, making each session unpredictable. A successful evacuation allows players to enhance their character, unlock cosmetic rewards, and assemble more powerful builds. Bungie has also added dynamic events and environmental threats that can suddenly shift the course of a match.
A recent official overview introduced six main Runner Shells—playable classes with distinct playstyles: Destroyer, Assassin, Recon, Vandal, Thief, and Triage. Additionally, the game features a seventh shell, Rook, available only in solo modes. It comes with a standard free gear set, letting newcomers play without risking their own items.
The standard edition of Marathon will cost $39.99, €39.99, or £34.99. The Deluxe version will be priced higher, though the exact cost hasn't been revealed yet. The game launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S with full cross-platform play support.
