OnePlus 16 to feature 9,000 mAh battery and 240 Hz display

OnePlus continues to bet on battery life for its flagship phones. According to leaks, the upcoming OnePlus 16 might feature a battery with a capacity of around 9,000 mAh. This would mark a significant leap forward, even compared to the already impressive OnePlus 15 with its 7,300 mAh battery. If confirmed, the new smartphone would stand out noticeably among competitors in the premium segment.

The device is expected to use the Glacier Battery technology. This high-density solution was developed by OnePlus in partnership with CATL. It allows for more capacious batteries without significantly increasing the phone's overall dimensions. The technology also improves thermal performance during prolonged heavy use and fast charging. This approach gives the company an advantage, as most flagship models are still limited to batteries in the 5,000–5,500 mAh range.

Beyond battery life, rumors suggest the OnePlus 16 will get a display with a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz. A major camera upgrade is also on the cards, potentially including a 200-megapixel sensor. The lineup itself may expand, with the company possibly introducing a base model alongside an OnePlus 16R and a more advanced Pro or Ultra variant.

The expected launch is still several months away. Even so, it's becoming clear that the OnePlus 16 is shaping up to be a flagship with a distinct focus on endurance and practicality. Against competitors from Samsung, Apple, and Google, who are increasing battery capacity very cautiously, OnePlus's strategy appears more aggressive and user-experience oriented.
