Google has started rolling out Android Auto version 16.0, bringing noticeable visual changes that immediately stand out. While the company has often focused on technical improvements in recent years, this update also revamps the interface's appearance, making it more modern and driver-friendly.
The main visual innovation is a "wavy" music playback indicator. Previously available only to beta testers, it resembled animations from Pixel smartphone interfaces. Now, this eye-catching progress bar appears in the stable Android Auto 16.0 version and displays across all music apps, regardless of service. Another change involves playback controls. The play and pause buttons have been moved closer to the driver, making them easier to see and tap at a glance. This detail matters because it directly impacts safety and convenience while driving.
Android Auto 16.0 is also seen as groundwork for larger updates expected in 2026. In test builds, hints have already emerged about widgets that will display directly in the main interface without a separate screen.
