Garmin has unveiled the tactix 8 Cerakote Edition, a new version of its tactical smartwatch aimed at military personnel, rescue workers, and professionals operating in extreme environments. This model emphasizes enhanced durability, battery life, and a suite of professional features that go well beyond standard smartwatches.
The watch features a 51mm case, a 1.4-inch AMOLED display with sapphire glass, and a titanium bezel. A key highlight is the ceramic-polymer Cerakote coating, applied via spraying and baking to protect against abrasion, corrosion, and harsh chemicals. Over time, this coating wears naturally, giving each unit a unique appearance. It is available in gray and olive colors.
For tactical use, the tactix 8 includes a Jumpmaster mode for HAHO, HALO, and static-line jumps, equipment weight tracking for marches, simultaneous display of two coordinate systems, and StealthMode, which disables wireless interfaces while continuing to record distance and biometric data without saving location. The watch is compatible with night vision devices and supports the Applied Ballistics Ultralight ballistic calculator.
Beyond military applications, this model is also designed for outdoor activities. It is rated for dives up to 40 meters, suitable for scuba and freediving, and offers advanced training plans, endurance tracking, and comprehensive health monitoring, including Body Battery, Pulse Ox, and sleep analysis. Navigation features include topographic maps, databases of golf courses and ski resorts, and aviation data with nearby airport search.
Battery life reaches up to 29 days in smartwatch mode, making the tactix 8 Cerakote Edition ideal for extended expeditions. The new watch is already available in the U.S. for $1,599.99, though availability and pricing may vary in other regions.
