Apple is preparing its first foldable iPhone for 2026, and, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device is shaping up to be a true feat of engineering. He described a format that would resemble two ultra‑thin iPhone Air units joined by a hinge, with the goal of becoming the thinnest foldable phone on the market.
The newly introduced iPhone Air is just 5.64 mm thick, and that spirit of lightness and minimalism is expected to define Apple’s future foldable flagship. Reports point to a 7.8‑inch flexible display inside and a 5.5‑inch screen on the outside. To free up internal space, insiders say Apple plans to drop Face ID in favor of Touch ID integrated into the side button.
Production is slated for Foxconn in China, despite chatter about a possible shift to India. A launch is targeted for fall 2026, and analysts forecast a price of at least $2,000–$2,500. The chassis is said to be titanium, with a dual rear camera and a front‑facing camera usable both folded and unfolded.
This foldable iPhone would go head‑to‑head with Samsung’s Galaxy Z line and other flexible devices, finally putting Apple on the board in a category long surrounded by speculation. If the projections hold, the device could set the tone for premium foldables. The emphasis on extreme thinness over familiar hardware choices suggests a deliberate trade‑off, one that could appeal to those who prize Apple’s sleek design philosophy.
