2026 could be one of the busiest years for the Mac lineup in recent memory. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing a major refresh for both laptops and desktops, with the potential for a significantly accelerated timeline for its next-generation custom processors.
Based on the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Apple plans to unveil updated MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models in the first half of 2026, along with a new Mac Studio and a long-awaited revision of the Studio Display. Gurman suggests that Apple's traditional spring event could be particularly exciting for macOS enthusiasts and professional workstation users this time around.
The second half of the year promises no less intrigue. Company plans reportedly include an updated Mac mini, an affordable MacBook based on a chip borrowed from the iPhone lineup, and a completely redesigned MacBook Pro. The latter is expected to feature an OLED display and a touchscreen, with a release likely closer to year-end. These rumors align with supply chain leaks indicating Samsung has already begun production of OLED panels for future Apple devices.
Perhaps the most surprising development could involve Apple Silicon processors. Despite the recent debut of the M5 chip, Gurman suggests the Apple M6 might make an early appearance. Apple has previously shortened its update cycle—only about six months passed between the M3 and M4 releases. By analogy, the first Macs with M6 processors could be introduced as early as summer during WWDC 2026.
If these predictions hold true, 2026 might indeed become the "year of the Mac"—featuring faster processor updates, a transition to OLED displays, and the most extensive wave of new desktop and portable computer releases from Apple in a long time.
