GTA 6 could release digitally first to stop leaks, physical copies delayed

According to a new leak, Rockstar and Take-Two are reportedly considering a radical move to protect Grand Theft Auto VI from premature leaks. Polish outlet PPE, citing retailers, claims the game might launch exclusively in digital format on both consoles and PC, with no physical copies available on release day.

This approach aims to minimize the risk of leaks from retail chains. Physical versions require stores to receive discs in advance, and it's at this stage that photos of packaging, menu screenshots, or even gameplay footage often surface. A digital release would allow Rockstar to fully control access to the game and eliminate human factors from sellers.

However, this doesn't mean a complete abandonment of physical editions. Sources state that a disc version of GTA 6 will still be released, but with a slight delay after the digital launch. Retailers don't yet know exact timing, but it's unlikely the publisher would delay it too long to avoid losing customers who prefer boxed copies.

With the current release date set for November 19, 2026, the physical edition could potentially arrive before the Christmas holidays. For Rockstar, this strategy would help maintain excitement around the most anticipated game of the decade while avoiding a repeat of past scenarios with massive leaks before official launch.
