Microsoft brings Android-to-PC app handoff to Windows 11 with Spotify

Microsoft has begun testing a new Windows 11 feature that allows users to seamlessly transfer app activity from an Android smartphone to a PC. According to The Verge, the option is currently limited to participants in the Dev and Beta Channels and, for now, only works with Spotify.

The process is straightforward. When music starts playing on the phone, a notification appears on the connected computer with the suggestion to «Continue on this PC.» If selected, Windows either launches the desktop version of Spotify or prompts the user to install it, resuming playback with the same track for a smooth handoff between devices.

The concept is reminiscent of Apple’s Handoff, which lets users switch tasks between a Mac, iPhone, and other devices without interruption. Analysts note that while Microsoft’s feature is currently focused on music, it could eventually expand to reading, document editing, and email. If developed further, it would significantly streamline interaction between smartphones and Windows PCs, narrowing the gap in cross-device integration.
