iPhone Air 2 rumors reveal upgrades and potential launch

Apple may be preparing a sequel to its thinnest model—the iPhone Air 2—with early rumors hinting at several significant improvements. According to insiders, the new device could be unveiled either in the fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, or in the spring of 2027 alongside the base iPhone 18. In any case, the company appears keen to make the ultra-thin format more practical and appealing.

The key upgrade might be a shift to the new 2nm A20 Pro processor. This chip promises to notably boost energy efficiency and address the first iPhone Air's key weakness: poor battery life. A more modern architecture should deliver gains not only in battery performance but also in overall speed, especially for AI and photo processing tasks.

The cameras could also get stronger. The first Air generation had only a single 48MP sensor, which limited its photographic capabilities. Now, Apple is reportedly considering adding a second camera, most likely an ultra-wide-angle lens, making the smartphone more versatile for travel and landscapes.

An unexpected rumor suggests a possible price cut. Currently, the iPhone Air starts at $999, and many consider it expensive for a niche model. Leaks mention a price around $899, but this would be an atypical move for Apple, so the information should be taken cautiously. It's also reported that the iPhone Air 2 will feature a thinner, brighter OLED display with CoE technology, which removes the polarizing layer for greater efficiency. The screen will retain its 6.55-inch diagonal, support 120Hz and LTPO, and keep the Dynamic Island.

Externally, the device is unlikely to change radically, but Apple might try to make it even thinner than the current 5.6mm. The Action Button and Camera Control are rumored to remain. For now, the main intrigue lies in exactly when the Air 2 will launch, but one thing is clear: Apple aims to turn this stylish ultra-thin smartphone into a more balanced flagship.
