Samsung's first smart glasses set for 2026 release with AI features

Samsung has officially confirmed plans to launch its first smart glasses in 2026. While the company hasn't set an exact unveiling date, the release could happen before year's end. This marks a significant move for Samsung in expanding its augmented and mixed reality offerings, especially following last year's announcement of a partnership with Google in the XR space.

Mobile Experience division vice president Seon Cho shared these plans during an investor briefing. He explained that Samsung aims to deliver rich, immersive multimodal AI experiences across multiple platforms, including smartphones and next-generation AR glasses.

Rumors suggest the initial Samsung smart glasses model might skip a full AR display but will include a camera, microphones, and speakers. The device will likely run on Android XR and integrate into the Galaxy ecosystem, connecting with Samsung smartphones, smartwatches, and even smart rings.

Insiders also report that Samsung is developing two versions of the glasses, codenamed SM-O200P and SM-O200J, with only minor differences between them. A more advanced model featuring a true AR display is expected in the second generation, potentially arriving in 2027.

Samsung has already partnered with fashion brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, highlighting a focus on style as well as technology. With competitors also working on similar devices, the wearable XR electronics market is shaping up to be one of the most promising sectors in the coming years.
