On August 24, 2025, the day of his 62nd birthday, renowned Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima gave an interview to PlayStation Arabia, where he shared important updates about the future of the Death Stranding franchise. Despite the overwhelming success of the series, Kojima made it clear that he does not intend to personally lead the development of another sequel.
He explained that Death Stranding 2: Death’s Shore marks the conclusion of the saga and described it as the perfect ending to the story. At the same time, Kojima revealed that a concept for Death Stranding 3 already exists, adding that he hopes someone else may one day bring those ideas to life. He stressed that his own focus is now on other projects, including OD and Physint, which was another reason behind his decision to step away from a third installment.
Kojima also shared a surprising detail about Death Stranding 2. According to him, more than 79% of players remain engaged with the game even after completing the main storyline, continuing to explore its additional content. This, he noted, demonstrates the strong connection fans have developed with the world of Death Stranding.
Reflecting on his career during the interview, Kojima said that turning 62 does not change his plans for the future. Retirement, he emphasized, is not on the horizon — instead, he intends to keep creating new projects and delighting his audience for as long as he can.
