Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that the company’s upcoming Full Self-Driving (FSD) V14 will surpass the performance of human drivers. Speaking about the update, which is set to roll out next week, he described it as Tesla’s biggest breakthrough in artificial intelligence since the release of FSD V12. Musk emphasized that the new system would be two to three times better than a human driver, and hinted that the following version, FSD V15, could potentially reach a level of performance ten times greater than human driving skills.
According to Musk, FSD V14 incorporates ten times more parameters than its predecessor, dramatically improving its ability to predict and react to complex road situations. One of the most notable changes will be a more measured driving style: the system is designed to reduce unnecessary alerts to the driver while maintaining safety, resulting in a smoother and more natural driving experience.
Reliability remains a central focus for Tesla. Musk explained that FSD V14 is undergoing extensive real-world testing to ensure safety before wider deployment. If successful, driver intervention could be reduced to an absolute minimum, making the use of autopilot far more seamless and user-friendly.
Musk went so far as to say that FSD V14 at times feels «almost conscious,» suggesting it marks a new chapter in the evolution of autonomous driving technology. With Tesla preparing to launch its Robotaxi service in Austin, this update could prove to be a pivotal milestone—not only for the company but also for the broader future of self-driving transportation.
