Anbernic has unveiled its first gaming handhelds for 2026—the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro—clearly drawing inspiration from the legendary PlayStation Vita's design. The company is banking on nostalgia and premium aesthetics: both models feature a curved chassis and a fully glass front panel, giving them a more upscale feel than most retro consoles in this segment.
Visually, the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro closely mimic the PS Vita's style, with similar shapes, button layouts, and even a flat back cover. This approach highlights Anbernic's aim to offer more than just another Android emulation device, instead delivering a design that will resonate with fans of Sony's classic portable consoles. Interestingly, these models also bear a resemblance to the Ayn Odin2 Mini. Anbernic uses 5,000 mAh batteries, matching the competitor, but adds two extra buttons on the back panel instead of protective TPU inserts, which could enhance control in games and emulators.
Technical specifications for the devices remain unknown for now. The company has only showcased the design, without revealing details like the processor, memory capacity, or screen parameters. However, it's already clear that the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro represent Anbernic's latest effort to move beyond pure retro styling and offer a more modern, console-like appearance.
More details are expected in the coming weeks, as the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro are the brand's first officially revealed handhelds for 2026 and could kick off a new wave of devices inspired by iconic consoles of the past.
