New details about Apple's first foldable smartphone have surfaced online. The information comes from insider Instant Digital, who shared fresh data about the iPhone Fold's design and control layout. Rumors suggest the device could debut as early as September this year.
According to the leak, Apple has chosen an unusual button placement for an iPhone—the volume buttons are located in the top right corner of the body, similar to the iPad mini. The source claims this decision stems from the device's layout: the motherboard sits on the right side, and Apple opted to avoid running cables to the opposite edge.
The right side will also house a power button with an integrated Touch ID fingerprint scanner, plus a dedicated camera control button. The left side, per the insider, will be completely devoid of any physical elements.
For cameras, the iPhone Fold's external screen is expected to feature a front-facing camera with a circular cutout for selfies and video calls. The main camera, rumored to be dual-lens, will be on the rear panel in a style reminiscent of the iPhone Air. An LED flash and microphone will sit alongside the modules.
The camera module's design stands out: it will be entirely black, visually contrasting with the body rather than matching its color. The device is reported to come in at least two color options, one of which is white. Additionally, the insider states the foldable iPhone uses a multi-layer internal structure, allowing Apple to fit a larger-capacity battery despite the compact form factor.
