Dubai Loop high-speed underground transportation starts construction

The first phase of construction for Dubai's high-speed underground transportation network, Dubai Loop, will commence shortly. The project is being developed by Elon Musk's The Boring Company. According to Reuters, a UAE official has confirmed that work will begin immediately.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) chairman, Mattar Al Tayer, stated that the entire project will span 24 kilometers and cost approximately 2.5 billion dirhams. The initial phase will cover a 6-kilometer section, requiring an investment of around 600 million dirhams. The entire project is expected to be completed within two years.

This initiative was launched in February 2025 at the World Government Summit, where Dubai RTA and The Boring Company signed a memorandum of understanding. At that time, the plan involved creating a 17-kilometer pilot version of Dubai Loop with 11 stations, with partial operations targeted for the second quarter of 2026.

Later, in October 2025, UAE Minister of Transport Omar Al Olama announced the intention to launch the first underground loop route by the second quarter of 2026. The announcement about immediately starting the first construction phase confirms the project's shift from agreements to practical implementation.
