Apple users are being warned about a new wave of phishing attacks disguised as official Apple Pay notifications. Scammers are sending emails and alerts that look like messages about blocked transactions, suspicious activity, or fake appointments with customer support.
These messages aim to create a sense of urgency. Recipients are urged to immediately call a provided number or visit a fake "support service," where they encounter criminals posing as Apple employees. The goal is to steal Apple IDs, verification codes, payment details, or other confidential information.
The phishing emails may use Apple logos, official formatting, fake addresses referencing iCloud, and even mimic Apple Pay system notifications on lock screens. Some include case numbers, timestamps, and technical details to appear more convincing.
Upon closer inspection, inconsistencies can be spotted. The sender's address doesn't belong to Apple's official domains, the text might contain odd phrasing like "Hello, {Name}," and the phone numbers listed, when searched online, lead to unrelated resources not connected to Apple.
Apple emphasizes that the company does not schedule appointments via email or demand urgent resolution of payment issues through random phone numbers in messages. Genuine Apple notifications do not threaten immediate account locks or pressure users into quick action.
If you receive a suspicious message, it's best to avoid clicking links, calling any numbers provided, or opening attachments. Such messages can be forwarded to Apple's official abuse address for reporting, then deleted.
For added protection, users are advised to enable two-factor authentication, use unique passwords, and check Apple Pay transactions and Apple ID purchase history directly through device settings or Apple's official website.
