Xiaomi HyperOS 4 moves to own architecture while keeping Android services

Xiaomi is making a significant shift in the development of its operating system. According to the latest reports, HyperOS 4 will rely on the company's own architecture while retaining native Android services. This approach allows the brand to move toward technological independence without disrupting the familiar app ecosystem. Based on leaks, Xiaomi is gradually shedding the legacy of MIUI, replacing outdated components with more modern, in-house solutions.

Insider Digital Chat Station claims that part of the base platform in the new-generation HyperOS will be rewritten from scratch. However, Xiaomi does not intend to abandon Android services, aiming to avoid compatibility issues and maintain stable performance for third-party software. Simultaneously, the company plans to integrate its own artificial intelligence model directly at the system level, which could significantly alter the user experience.

This direction aligns with the strategy Xiaomi outlined earlier. The company aims to combine its own chip, operating system, and large AI models in a single device by 2026. The XRING O1 processor, introduced in 2025, was the first practical step in this direction. Now, changes are already visible within HyperOS 3.1, which is considered a transitional version.

According to industry sources, components from the MIUI-era SDK are being removed from system apps like "Weather" and "Photo Album." HyperOS 4, expected to launch in August, could become the first version free of architectural legacy from the past. If Xiaomi manages to balance independence with compatibility, HyperOS might emerge as one of the most intriguing alternatives to classic Android.
