PlayStation 5 reaches 92.2 million sales with rising digital content

Sony has reached a new milestone with the PlayStation 5, with global sales hitting 92.2 million consoles according to the third fiscal quarter report ending December 31, 2025. Despite a slight dip in shipments compared to last year, interest in the PS5 remains strong, and the console continues to lead the market.

Over the three-month period, the company sold 8 million consoles, which is 1.5 million fewer than during the same period the previous year. Meanwhile, game sales keep growing: the quarter saw 97.2 million software units sold for PS5 and PS4, of which 13.2 million were Sony titles. Notably, 76% of all sales were digital versions, highlighting the ongoing shift toward online content distribution.

Monthly active users on PlayStation Network also increased, reaching 132 million—up by three million from last year. This detail matters because it shows that even with a modest decline in console shipments, the growth in digital sales and network activity demonstrates the PlayStation ecosystem remains highly appealing to gamers worldwide.

Overall, the picture is straightforward: these figures confirm the PS5 is still one of the most successful consoles of this generation, with Sony effectively balancing physical sales, digital content, and online services.
