Xiaomi HyperOS 3.1 update with Super OTA system

Xiaomi has unveiled one of the most significant changes in HyperOS 3.1: a new update system called Super OTA (SOTA). This system dramatically simplifies software installation on the company's smartphones and tablets, making updates faster, less intrusive, and no longer disruptive to daily device use.

In the traditional update model, users had to download large patches and reboot their devices, a process that could take considerable time and interrupt work, gaming, or content viewing. With HyperOS 3.1, Xiaomi has moved away from this approach by implementing the unified SOTA architecture.

The new system combines system components and key applications into a single update package. This package downloads and installs in the background without interfering with normal smartphone operation. A reboot is only required when updating core operating system components, and even then, the process is faster and smoother than before.

Super OTA technology also accelerates the rollout of bug fixes and minor improvements. Instead of waiting for major releases, Xiaomi can now promptly issue compact updates, enhancing device stability and security. This is particularly important for users who rely heavily on their smartphones throughout the day and don't want to spend time on system maintenance.

Updates with SOTA support can be identified by special indexes, such as C05 or C06, in the build number. These indicate that the patch includes combined system and application modules and doesn't require a mandatory reboot unless technically necessary.
