Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max debut with Magic Back Screen

Xiaomi has officially unveiled its flagship Mi 17 Pro series at the company’s annual launch event. The lineup includes two models — Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max — with prices in China starting from 4,999 yuan.

The headline addition is the Magic Back Screen, a secondary display built to premium spec: M10 backlight, peak brightness up to 3,500 nits, and Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass for protection. More than a visual flourish, it can show the time, AI portraits and pets, and surface travel or music alerts. It also doubles as a viewfinder for selfies with the main camera, offers a photo booth mode with built-in templates, and lets you pin quick notes via the Stick-It feature.

For retro gaming fans, Xiaomi is offering a branded case with physical buttons for 299 yuan, effectively turning the phone into a handheld console — a playful accessory that makes sense for short sessions on the go.

On the imaging front, the Mi 17 Pro series has been framed as the King of Lighting. The cameras feature the Leica Light and Shadow Master system, a Light Hunter 950L sensor with a 16.5 EV dynamic range, and a new Grand Slam coating that cuts glare and artifacts in tricky lighting. The emphasis on light handling suggests the brand is chasing reliable results where most phone cameras stumble.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro also stands out with a 6,300 mAh battery packed into an 8 mm body. Across the series, UWB connectivity enables precise positioning and touchless car control: the phone can automatically pop the trunk and unlock the doors as the owner approaches — a small convenience that hints at a broader push into seamless everyday use.
