The Chinese foldable smartphone market is gearing up for a fresh wave of flagship releases. March is expected to see the launch of the Honor Magic V6 and OPPO Find N6, while rumors suggest Xiaomi might skip its Mix Fold lineup entirely this year. Meanwhile, vivo appears to be preparing a truly high-profile debut with the vivo X Fold 6.
According to a recent leak from insider Smart Pikachu, vivo's new foldable is being developed as a fully loaded device and could feature a 200-megapixel camera. If confirmed, the X Fold 6 would be the first foldable with such a sensor, potentially offering the best mobile camera in its class. Additionally, the device is reportedly being tested with a multispectral sensor, a component that ensures more accurate color reproduction and proper white balance—solutions previously found mainly in traditional form-factor camera phones.
For context, last year's vivo X Fold 5 had a main camera based on the Sony IMX921 sensor with optical stabilization, along with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide module and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, but lacked a multispectral sensor. It remains unclear which sensor—possibly from Samsung or OmniVision—will be used in the X Fold 6's 200-megapixel camera, or whether it will be in the main module or the periscope telephoto lens.
The new model is expected to feature the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, replacing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 used in the X Fold 5. Other specifications are still under wraps, but in terms of timing, the vivo X Fold 6 could launch in the summer, likely around July, similar to its predecessor.
If the rumors hold true, the vivo X Fold 6 has every chance to set a new benchmark for camera quality among foldable smartphones.
