Capcom appears to be preparing a return of Resident Evil 5 in an updated form. The game unexpectedly surfaced in the database of the American rating agency ESRB, with a version for Xbox Series listed—a move that typically occurs shortly before an official announcement. There's no direct mention of PS5 yet, but this only fuels speculation ahead of Sony's upcoming show.
The timing looks particularly intriguing because another State of Play is scheduled for February 13. It was at such an event in 2022 that Capcom first revealed the Resident Evil 4 Remake, so series fans aren't ruling out a similar scenario for the fifth installment. The coincidence is too striking to ignore.
The ESRB listing doesn't offer many details, but it does include a note about in-game purchases. This indirectly suggests a full remake rather than a simple remaster. In recent years, Capcom has actively added paid DLC and micro-expansions even to single-player projects—the Resident Evil 4 remake itself received extra treasure maps and bonuses.
Interest in the rumors was further amplified by a comment from actress Eva La Dare, who voiced Sheva Alomar. In January, she posted on social media that "something interesting will happen in March," accompanying the post with hashtags #RE5 and #ResidentEvil5. If everything aligns, Capcom could officially unveil the remake of one of the series' most controversial yet popular entries in the coming weeks.
