Google has officially confirmed the imminent launch of the first public beta for Android 17. This announcement follows shortly after the release of Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1 for Pixel smartphones, which marks the final development stage for the current OS version before the transition to the next generation.
This year, the company is altering its familiar release pattern. Unlike previous cycles that began with Developer Preview versions followed by public betas, Android 17 will debut directly with Beta 1. According to Google, this initial build will be based on the Android 16 QPR platform release and will incorporate the latest bug fixes, along with stability and performance improvements.
Early reports suggest Android 17 will introduce a range of new features, including enhanced gaming capabilities and additional system optimizations. Specific details will be revealed after the first beta version launches, which could happen within the coming weeks. The final stable release is tentatively scheduled for June 2026.
As usual, Google Pixel owners will be the first to receive the update. Users already enrolled in the Android 16 QPR3 beta program who have not opted out will automatically get Android 17 Beta 1. Those who do not wish to install the test version should exit the program in advance. For devices from other brands, the beta is expected to become available several weeks after its debut on Pixel devices.
