Xiaomi has officially unveiled its own Bluetooth tracker for finding lost items—the Xiaomi Tag. Positioned as an affordable alternative to Apple's AirTag, the device is already available in several European countries, priced between €14 and €18 depending on the region.
The tracker features a compact white design and weighs just 8 grams. With model number BHR08SPGL, it boasts IP67 water and dust resistance, Bluetooth 5.4 support, and a replaceable CR2032 battery that lasts about a year. A built-in sound signal helps locate the tag nearby.
Xiaomi Tag is compatible with both Apple Find My and Google Find Hub networks, leveraging other devices' infrastructure to pinpoint the tracker's last known location. If the tag is out of the owner's Bluetooth range, its signal can be picked up by other users' smartphones, with data relayed to a cloud service.
However, the device lacks UWB (ultra-wideband) support—a technology that enables centimeter-level precision tracking. Since Xiaomi Tag relies solely on Bluetooth signals, smartphones can estimate distance based on signal strength (RSSI) but cannot provide exact directional guidance.
Despite this limitation, the tracker remains suitable for everyday use. It can be attached to keys, placed in a wallet, car, or luggage, helping users quickly locate misplaced items and receive notifications about last recorded positions.
It is unclear whether Xiaomi will release a UWB-enabled version, but such a model could compete with higher-priced alternatives in the market.
