God of War trilogy remake confirmed for PS5 and PC

Sony and Santa Monica Studio have officially confirmed that the original God of War trilogy will receive a full remake. This announcement coincides with the series' 20th anniversary and could serve as a long-awaited gift for fans who fondly remember Kratos' Greek era. Despite the massive success of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, many fans have criticized the reboot for moving away from its roots and altering the tone, gameplay, and protagonist's character.

The published statement specifically refers to a "remake" rather than a "remaster," hinting at projects being rebuilt from the ground up. This suggests the potential for completely updated graphics, modern mechanics, and adaptation to current platforms, rather than simple texture improvements for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 versions. The original installments, released between 2005 and 2010, remain cult classics but have noticeably aged in technical terms.

Developers have not yet revealed details. The teaser featured T.C. Carson, the actor who voiced Kratos in the Greek saga. He noted that the project is in its earliest development stages, meaning it will be some time before gameplay footage and specific release dates emerge.

Nevertheless, the mere fact of returning to the series' origins has already sparked excitement among fans. This remake could not only delight long-time followers but also introduce a new generation of players to Kratos' brutal and epic story from his battles against the gods of Olympus. It is possible that the updated trilogy will release not only on PlayStation 5 but also on PC.
