Android Auto video apps in development for parked vehicles

Google continues to develop video app support for Android Auto, even though the feature remains unavailable to users. The company first announced the ability to watch videos on car screens while parked at Google I/O 2025, noting this would be particularly useful for electric vehicle owners during charging sessions.

A new software flag found in the latest Android Auto beta version 16.3.160744 directly points to preparations for launching video apps. The feature cannot be activated yet, likely because developers still need to refine system components and app integrations. Still, the appearance of this code confirms the project is not on hold and is in active development.

Alongside this, Google is testing other changes. Android Auto may receive updated network icons in the Android 16 style, plus the ability to select a driver avatar directly through the car interface. These elements aim to unify design and personalize the system.

Google appears to be gradually preparing a major Android Auto update that will make the car's multimedia system more functional and modern. Official launch timelines for video apps haven't been revealed, but new code discoveries suggest a release could come soon.
