Hasselblad X2D II 100C: hybrid AF, HDR images, 10‑stop IBIS and a lower price

Hasselblad has unveiled the X2D II 100C, a successor to the X2D 100C that pushes forward in nearly every key area. The headline changes include a hybrid autofocus system with phase-detect points and AI-driven algorithms, a stronger in‑body stabilizer, and end‑to‑end HDR support in the imaging pipeline. Despite the upgrades, the camera arrives at a slightly lower price of $7,399 compared with its predecessor’s $8,199—a welcome shift for a flagship medium‑format model.

The X2D II 100C features a new 100‑megapixel BSI sensor that delivers 16‑bit RAW files and up to 15.3 stops of dynamic range—a figure that stands out even among high‑end cameras. For the first time on a Hasselblad body, full HDR processing is supported, improving highlight handling, preserving detail in bright areas, and maintaining more natural color. Images can be reviewed right on the display in HDR HEIF and Ultra HDR JPEG formats.

Stabilization sets an industry record: the 5‑axis IBIS system is now rated for up to 10 stops of compensation, helping keep handheld shots sharp at longer shutter speeds. Continuous AF (AF‑C) with LiDAR support debuts in the series as well, enabling subject tracking and bursts at up to 3 frames per second. For this lineup, that’s a significant leap, especially given that the first version lacked continuous autofocus altogether.

The body has been reworked, too. Weighing 730 grams—7.5% lighter than before—the camera aims for a more comfortable grip, adds a new 3.6‑inch touchscreen with 1,400‑nit brightness, and introduces a joystick for focus and menu control. Practical touches include a built‑in 1TB of storage, a CFexpress Type B slot, and compatibility with the Phocus Mobile 2 app for remote control and photo editing. Alongside the camera, Hasselblad announced the XCD 2.8–4 35–100E lens priced at $4,599, plus accessories including the Vandra backpack at $469 and 86mm filters. The package reads as cohesive and thoughtfully updated across the board.
