Just weeks after its US launch, Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone, priced at $2,899, is under scrutiny due to potential issues with its internal screen. The device, which unfolds into a tablet-sized display of around 10 inches, hit retail on January 30, 2026, and reportedly saw strong initial interest.
However, early adopters on Reddit have flagged malfunctions. One user described the screen suddenly glowing green before the internal panel went dark. A reboot temporarily fixed it, but the glitch recurred the next day, with the owner claiming no drops or mechanical stress.
Another buyer reported "phantom" touches within days of purchase, followed by the display turning completely white and becoming unresponsive. This user also noted a weak clicking sound when folding and a slight bulge under the screen, resembling an air bubble.
It's too early to call this a systemic problem, as confirmed cases remain limited. Still, the three-section design introduces more moving parts and potential stress points compared to standard foldables. Flexible OLED panels, ultra-thin glass, adhesive layers, and hinge mechanisms must endure constant bending, and even minor production variances can quickly surface in real-world use.
