Amazfit has launched its new flagship rugged smartwatch, the T-Rex Ultra 2, targeting extreme tourism, mountaineering, and active sports. This model directly evolves from the T-Rex Ultra, featuring several key upgrades. The most significant improvement is a higher-density battery, with capacity jumping 74% to 870 mAh while the case weight remains nearly unchanged at about 89 grams.
This achievement stems from using Grade-5 titanium in the case, bezel, and buttons. This material is lighter and stronger than the steel used in the previous generation, making it better suited for harsh conditions. The display has also been upgraded: the 1.5-inch AMOLED panel now features sapphire glass protection and can reach a peak brightness of up to 3000 nits. This ensures excellent readability even in direct sunlight, in mountains, or on water.
Navigation capabilities have seen substantial changes. Built-in storage has increased from 4 GB to 64 GB, enabling pre-installed offline topographic maps with road type differentiation. The watch supports simultaneous connection to six satellite systems and offers full turn-by-turn navigation without the need for manual map downloads, unlike before.
Another practical addition is a built-in dual-mode LED flashlight with brightness of 200 or 300 lux, plus a dedicated SOS mode. For European users, NFC support for contactless payments has been added. The device retains 10 ATM water resistance and is rated for operation down to -30°C, making it suitable for freediving, high-speed water sports, and winter expeditions.
The Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2 is priced at $549.90 in the U.S. and €549.90 in Europe. Overall, this positions the watch firmly in the premium segment of rugged smartwatches, offering flagship materials and features along with a corresponding price tag.
