Ubisoft Toronto cuts 40 jobs amid restructuring, Splinter Cell remake ongoing

Ubisoft continues to reduce its workforce amid a major restructuring effort, with its Canadian studio in Toronto now facing cuts. According to Western media reports, approximately 40 employees have lost their jobs. This studio is considered one of the largest within the French publisher's structure and has previously contributed to the development of Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 6.

In an official statement, Ubisoft emphasized that this decision was difficult and not related to the professional qualities of the affected specialists. The company has promised to provide compensation packages and assistance with reemployment. Nevertheless, the wave of layoffs continues as part of a broader strategic review and cost optimization initiative.

For players, a key point of interest is that Ubisoft Toronto is handling the remake of Splinter Cell, which was announced back in 2021. Despite the layoffs, the publisher has assured that the project remains in development, and the studio will continue working on it alongside other company initiatives.

This situation is further complicated by earlier layoffs that affected Ubisoft's Swedish divisions, with reports suggesting up to 200 people could lose their jobs at the Paris office. Recently, the company also canceled the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and last week, about 1,200 Ubisoft employees participated in a strike to protest the policy of mass layoffs and cost-cutting measures.
