Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the global launch of its Xiaomi 17 series will take place on February 28 in Barcelona at the Fira Gran Via conference center. The company announced a new phase of its collaboration with Leica, promising to "redefine mobile photography." In addition to smartphones, the event will showcase Xiaomi Pad 8 tablets and new ecosystem devices under the slogan "Smart on the Go."
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra in its Leica version is generating particular interest. According to data from Thailand's NBTC regulator, the global market model might be released under the name "Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi." This would mark the first time the Leitzphone brand, previously used by Leica mainly in Japan, receives broader international positioning. This move could signal a deepening of the strategic partnership between the two companies.
Despite the potential rebranding, the device's technical foundation will remain unchanged. A model with the index 25128PNA1G appeared in the Geekbench database, equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, 16GB of RAM, and running Android 16. This means the global version won't differ in specifications from the Chinese variant.
The appearance of the Leitzphone name alongside the Xiaomi 17 Ultra could be the highlight of the launch. Intrigue remains around the final naming, pricing, and sales regions, but it's already clear that Xiaomi is making a serious push into the premium mobile photography segment on the global market.
