Apple Maps enhances Formula 1 features for 2026 season

Apple has updated its Apple Maps app, adding enhanced features for Formula 1 fans ahead of the 2026 season. The new championship kicks off next month, marking the first season to be broadcast exclusively on Apple TV in the U.S. This map update ties into that event, aiming for deeper integration of the company's digital services with the motorsport series.

Apple Maps now includes detailed circuit layouts showing turn numbers, grandstand locations, and key infrastructure points. Users can view a 3D model of the pit building and other track facilities. For spectators attending races in person, the app provides pop-up tips highlighting entrances, rest areas, medical points, merchandise pavilions, and water stations. It also offers pedestrian routes to specific grandstands.

Special focus is given to the Australian Grand Prix. In 3D mode, the app displays objects around the Albert Park circuit, such as the pit complex, grandstands, Lakeside Stadium, and the finish line. Additionally, iconic Melbourne landmarks like the Eureka Tower, Rod Laver Arena, Marvel Stadium, and the Royal Exhibition Building are rendered in 3D. This allows fans to combine the sporting event with tourist navigation in the city.

Apple stated that similar updates will roll out for other championship races throughout the year. The app also features a new guide titled "2026 Formula 1 Tracks Around the World," covering all 24 circuits of the season. Starting this year, Apple TV subscribers in the U.S. can watch all races at no extra cost, reinforcing the company's ecosystem strategy around Formula 1 broadcasts.
