Fans have been waiting a long time, but it looks like the wait for Wolfenstein 3 might finally be coming to an end. Development appears to be in an active phase, more than eight years after Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus released. The fate of a third mainline entry has been uncertain for years, despite early hints from the studio.
After the second numbered game, developer MachineGames released spin-offs Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, but neither matched the success of the core series. The studio then focused on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which was warmly received by players and critics. However, the story of William "B.J." Blazkowicz has remained unfinished.
Now, outlet MP1st reports that casting has begun for a new project codenamed Valkyrie. The production involves director of acting Tom Keegan and casting director Emily Schweber. According to the description, they are seeking an actress for the role of Sophia, an orphan aged 8 to 11. In the story, this character will bond with the protagonist and accompany him throughout the game, along with her dog named Ralph.
The casting notice describes Sophia as blossoming under the care of the resistance, becoming strong-willed and resilient, despite initial suspicion and trauma from the war.
Motion-capture filming could start as soon as April, with additional shoots planned for 2026–2027. But an official announcement and first materials are likely still a long way off, especially since MachineGames was recently busy with the DLC The Order of Giants. A realistic release window for Wolfenstein 3 is now considered to be 2028–2029.
Meanwhile, the franchise is expanding beyond gaming: the studio is collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios on a TV adaptation for Prime Video.
