Razer has unveiled an unusual accessory: a case for 16-inch laptops featuring built-in MagSafe wireless charging pads. This new product enables simultaneous wireless charging for two devices—one at up to 15W and the other at up to 5W. Razer markets this solution as part of a mobile workstation setup, allowing users to power up their smartphone and headphones while working on their laptop.
The accessory's standout feature is its integrated charging modules, which are embedded in the inner flap of the magnetic closure. When unfolded, the case serves as a desk mat for the laptop, with the open lid transforming into a dual wireless charger equipped with magnetic alignment. Notably, it lacks a built-in battery and requires connection to a power source via USB-C. The case is compatible with 30W adapters.
Priced at $130, this accessory is significantly more expensive than standard laptop cases. Razer justifies the cost by pointing to its premium materials: the interior is lined with soft microfiber to protect the laptop's body, the edges are reinforced, and the charging areas are finished with polyurethane leather. The exterior is made of polyester textile, and the case features a magnetic fastener.
Weighing in at 410 grams, the added heft is due to the internal wireless modules. Razer claims support for magnetic alignment charging in the MagSafe style, though the exact Qi standard version isn't specified. Against the backdrop of some smartphone makers recently moving away from magnetic wireless charging, Razer's move appears to be an attempt to rethink the very format of accessories for mobile ecosystems.
